NOBILITY

From the Collins English Dictionary, the definition of nobility is:

'a socially or politically privileged class whose titles are conferred by descent or royal decree'

The term is used throughout Europe where such honours and titles have been used for many centuries. In the UK, nobility is typically used to describe Dukes, Marquesses, Earls, Viscounts, Barons and their female equivalents.
