About Burke's Peerage

John Burke
John Burke
The books Burke's Peerage & Baronetage and Burke's Landed Gentry have, for over 185 years, recorded the genealogies of historical families. These books are without comparison as a genealogical reference to influential figures and families past and present.

Burke's Peerage continues to publish and has established an online database. The latter includes over 15,000 detailed genealogical records containing over one million names from various Burke's Peerage publications. You can search individuals and families who have shaped history over several centuries.

In 1999 rights to update and publish Burke's Landed Gentry became available. At that point a new company was formed, Burke's Landed Gentry, and so after a gap of thirty years, a team of genealogists worked to produce the 19th edition of Burke's Landed Gentry, Volume 1, Kingdom in Scotland. This was published in August 2001 as a printed book and online database.

Some years earlier, Morris Genealogical Books updated and published the 106th edition of Burke's Peerage & Baronetage. This title had also been out of print for some years. The book was well received and in 2001 Burke's Landed Gentry bought the rights from Morris to the 106th edition, bringing together the two titles under one publisher for the first time in many years. In January 2002 content from Burke's Peerage & Baronetage was added to the online database.

We are sensitive to the history associated with the name of Burke's Peerage and work hard to provide excellent customer service. Please note that Burke's Peerage has no connection with Halbert's or the World Book of… who briefly licenced the use of the name.
