In 1999 rights to update and publish Burke's Landed Gentry became available. At that point our new company was formed, Burke's Landed Gentry, and so after a gap of thirty years, a team of genealogists worked to produce the 19th edition of Burke's Landed Gentry, Volume 1, Kingdom in Scotland. This was published in August 2001 as a printed book and online database. English and Welsh articles from the 18th edition are also available online and are currently being updated as we receive family information..
Some years earlier, Morris Genealogical Books updated and published the 106th edition of Burke's Peerage & Baronetage. This title had also been out of print for some years. The book was well received and in 2001 Burke's Landed Gentry bought the rights from Morris to the 106th edition, bringing together the two titles under one publisher for the first time in many years. The organisation then changed its name to Burke's Peerage and Gentry to reflect the new acquisition.
In January 2002 content from Burke's Peerage & Baronetage was added to our online database. We were delighted to retain key members of the editorial team which worked on the 106th edition.
We have had a number of enquiries on the subject of Halbert's. Burke's Peerage and Gentry has no connection with Halbert's or the Burke's Peerage Partnership.
We are sensitive to the history associated with the name of Burke's and work hard to provide excellent customer service. Our aim is to focus on the high quality, accurate content traditionally associated with Burke's name.
The Burke's Online service is now provided in association with The Origins Network.
