Burke's Peerage has been pleased to sponsor and publish a series of Scottish heritage titles from the Prestoungrange Arts Festival in Prestonpans, a small community 10 miles east of Edinburgh on the Forth which has the distinction of the first coal mining charter in the United Kingdom and of playing a leading role in the Scottish pottery industry in the 18th and 19th centuries. It was also the site of HRH Prince Charles Edward's [Bonnie Prince Charlie] decisive Jacobite victory in September 1745 over the Hanoverian King George II of Scotland and England although his campaign ultimately ended in defeat at Culloden in April 1746.
This series of scholarly titles addresses that historical legacy much of which is also being retold in the town's public murals programme.

The Prestonpans Tapestry
Created by Andrew Crummy et al
The story of and historical background to the Prestonpans Tapestry, a modern-day celebration of Bonnie Prince Charlie and his victory at Prestonpans.
The Prestonpans Tapestry presents full colour images of all 104 panels of the world’s longest embroidered tapestry together with accompanying historical analysis of each. It tells the story of the Hopes and Ambitions of 25 year old Bonnie Prince Charlie to regain the British throne for his exiled father. Within eight weeks of landing in the Hebrides he had raised a Highland army, taken Edinburgh without a shot being fired and defeated Johnnie Cope’s Hanoverian army in a stunning Victory at Prestonpans. Scotland was his. This tapestry has been stitched by volunteers along the route the Prince took in 1745 and each of them is recorded in the book. The completed work took 24 months to complete and in excess of 25,000 stitching hours. Andrew Crummy designed the tapestry in its entirety with Dorie Wilkie leading the stitchers. Cloth.
