William Bortrick

William became fascinated with genealogy while listening to anecdotes and reminiscences of his father through his childhood years. Early on he was encouraged by Harry, 23rd Lord Borthwick and Dr Otto von Habsburg. Later he studied history at the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge, where he served as a member of the governing Council. In the ensuing years he has developed a knowledge of the genealogy of historical families worldwide. His other interests include architecture, gardens and music. He enjoys exploring coastlines and the countryside; and has travelled extensively, having visited some eighty countries.

Vice Chairman

Mark James Ayre, FRSA

Mark has since his early years enjoyed hearing stories about his family, and especially from his innovative grandfather. He studied design and engineering at university. He has diverse interests including architecture, art, genealogy and history. He is Managing Director of a company providing bespoke services arranging cultural and heritage activities in the British Isles. Receiving a High Sheriff’s Award as a young man was a source of inspiration to him; he sees Burke’s Peerage Foundation as a way of encouraging enthusiastic individuals of all ages to succeed. His other pursuits include adventure training, mountain biking, skydiving and travel.
